WEP Euston Opportunity Area working group

The group was set up by WEP to look at issues and opportunities from the proposed redevelopment of Euston Station. It was started in April 2008 and has met 7 times (in April to agree terms of reference and May, June, July. Oct 2008 and Jan, March 2009)

Representation and terms of reference were agreed. The group consists of representatives from Tenants’ and Residents’ Associations from Regent’s Park and Somers Town and other stakeholders including Bengali Workers Association, Diorama Arts, Hopscotch Asian Women’s Centre, Third Age Project.

There have been 3 presentations from Camden Planners on the draft Planning Guidance for the Euston Area, as well as a meeting with Network Rail and British Land, the developers.

The group agreed a written response to the LBC planners Draft Planning Guidance (July 2008) covering a wide range of issues and concerns including the need for excellent urban design, community safety, the health, safety and well being of residents during construction, impact on local businesses, the need for affordable housing, as well as issues about entertainment, impact on educational facilities in the area, leisure, open spaces and health. The need for new and improved community facilities was emphasized as well as resources for proper consultation

The Planning Framework went to the Camden Council Executive Subcommittee on April 29th 2009 and after a period of 3 months has passed without any legal challenge, it will become the binding document for the development of the area.
