Listening to and working with local people
Planning Working Group
The group’s main focus of work in 2008 was about community and other stakeholder participation in the North East Quadrant Planning Application (Regent’s Place). Planning agreed on 22 April 2008.
WEP supported the scheme, after considerable consultation etc, and Board Directors and partners attending the Development Control committee meeting. At the committee meeting the Board stated their support for the scheme in terms of the overall urban design, provision of social housing and in particular the provisions for community benefit. They emphasized the view that the impact of international banking alongside social deprivation had been addressed realistically and directly with visible and specific community benefits.
Of special interest to the WEP was the proposed lease in perpetuity of replacement premises for the West Euston Partnership (known as the One Stop Shop). The inclusion of further funds for community facilities, including much needed funds for capital works to improve the Bengali Workers Association, additional support to the Samuel Lithgow Youth Centre and for children and young people and a contribution to open spaces on the Regent’s Park estate. WEP also welcomed the provision of 15 Apprenticeships under the planning agreement commitment by British Land and funds to develop a support model for local businesses in the Drummond Street area.
The Section 106 was signed in March 2009.
